MNS Wins Water Resources Project in Los Angeles Region

SUBWA GraphicCongratulations to the MNS Engineers, Inc. (MNS) Water Resources Engineering Team for winning the project for Los Angeles county-based water utility Suburban Water Systems, to prepare its 2015 Urban Water Management Plan!

MNS is in the process of preparing Suburban’s 2015 Urban Water Management Plans for each of its two divisions, further expanding the company’s geographical footprint to the Los Angeles region.

Suburban Water Systems provides public utility water service to two operating districts: the San Jose Hills District, and the Whittier/La Mirada District. Together, the Districts cover nearly 42 square miles.

The San Jose Hills District includes approximately 42,000 service connections within the Cities of Glendora, Covina, West Covina, La Puente, Industry, Walnut and unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County including Valinda and Hacienda Heights. The Whittier/La Mirada District includes approximately 33,000 service connections within the Cities of Whittier, La Mirada, La Habra and Buena Park and unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County and Orange County.

The water supply sources of the San Jose Hills District consist of groundwater produced from the Main San Gabriel Basin, treated surface water from Covina Irrigating Company, and treated water imported from Metropolitan Water District (MWD) purchased through the Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District.

The water supply sources of the Whittier/La Mirada District consist of groundwater produced from the Main San Gabriel Basin, groundwater produced from Central Basin, water purchased from California Domestic Water, treated imported water from MWD, and water from several other water agencies, which include the City of Whittier, San Gabriel Valley Water Company, and the City of La Habra.

MNS has a successful history preparing Urban Water Management Plans for a variety of agencies, including the 2005 and 2010 Urban Water Management Plans for the City of Oxnard, the 2005 and 2010 Urban Water Management Plans for the Port Hueneme Water Agency, and a Recycled Water Master Plan for the City of Santa Paula. The Project Manager for Suburban’s Urban Water Management Plan, Julia Aranda, PE, has additional experience preparing Urban Water Management Plans.
