eBART to Antioch Extension Project Wins 2019 ACEC Engineering Excellence Honor Award

MNS along with team members PGH Wong Engineering, Inc., AECOM, Ghirardelli Associates, and Stacy and Witbeck, Inc./Amaroso/MRS Joint Venture are the 2019 recipients of the prestigious ACEC California Engineering Excellence Honor Award for the eBART to Antioch: East Contra Costa Extension Project in the Transportation category. The 2019 Engineering Excellence Awards competition recognizes engineering and land surveying firms for projects that demonstrate an exceptional degree of innovation, complexity, achievement, and value.

BART contracted with the team to complete the eBART project which brought state-of-the art, environmentally friendly Diesel Multiple Units (DMU) rail service into East Contra Costa County between the Pittsburg/Bay Point Station and Antioch at half the cost of traditional BART. The project extended tracks ten miles east in the median of State Route 4 (SR-4), added two new stations, a parking lot, a train maintenance and operations facility pursuing LEED certification, providing much needed congestion relief on this busy commuter route. eBART was built in conjunction with the SR-4 widening project. This project team set an example and a standard for how complex projects can be delivered successfully with an innovative, proactive and collaborative team.
